The leaders of Class 40 will descend into the Doldrums this afternoon and it does not look easy for them. Of course as the forerunners into this notoriously difficult zone, they mark the way for those who are following and so they may have the chance to get around them. Life is certainly easier for the Multi 50s and the IMOCA Open 60s the leaders are sailing along the Brazilian coast after passing Recife yesterday, while the tail enders will go across the Equator this afternoon.
